After the resounding success of the Delhi and Mumbai legs of the inaugural Technology Premier League, all eyes were set on the third and final city, Bengaluru, in the battle among Indias top corporate IT teams.
There were 20 teams that turned up to solve the case study challenges at Bengaluru. Taking into account the 22 teams each that participated in Delhi and Mumbai, the total number of participating teams reached 64.
Like in Delhi and Mumbai, each team was given a business case study that it was required to solve using certain technology stacks plus, innovative thinking. The teams each made a short presentation, or elevator pitch, to a distinguished panel of judges, which comprised: Revathy Ashok, former MD of Tishman Speyer; MP Badrinath, Director (Risk Advisory Practice), Ernst & Young; Ravanan Rostow, CFO at MindTree Consulting; and Ashvin Vellody, Director (Management Consulting) at KPMG.
Based on the quick presentations, five teams were shortlisted and invited to make detailed pitches to the jury: Aspire, AXA Technology, Tata Teleservices, Texas Instruments and Vijai Electricals.
After more elaborate presentations by these teams and taking into account the votes people had given to their favourite teams the winners of the day were announced. Texas Instruments emerged as the second runner-up, while the first runner-up was declared to be AXA Technology Shared Services. The top winner which will get to fly to Las Vegas as the grand prize was, of course, the team from Vijai Electricals.
With the Bengaluru contest, TPL 2012 came to a close, but, from what we heard here at IT Next, a lot of corporate IT managers and CIOs have begun preparations for TPL 2013 in earnest. TPL promises to be back in a year with a bigger cast and much more excitement.
