Earlier it was being rumoured that Samsung was eying HPs PC business, but Samsung has strongly refuted those rumours. However, it seems certain that Samsung is interested in something that HP has, as the company has recruited HPs ex -vice president of PSG marketing, Raymond Wah, to handle Samsung's PC sales.
It is now being rumoured that Samsung may in fact be planning to purchase the webOS in order to compete head on against Apple and Google. Both HP and Samsung have declined to comment about the purchase of webOS. According to sources, an acquisition of HPs PC business, which has a low profit margin, could hurt Samsungs panel and DRAM business, which has a rather high profit margin.
Therefore, Samsung is more likely to concentrate on buying webOS. The thing is that the Korean company has been having lot of issues with Android OS. Even though Android has helped in catapulting Samsung into the top league of handset makers, the OS itself is plagued with lawsuits.
Samsung also has its in house OS, Bada.
