4 Trends that Define the Printing Needs of Government Offices

There has been an uptick in the number of organisations including the government looking to diminish the amount of paper in their business processes.

While there are organisations that view printing as critical to their businesses, there are many who are planning to ramp up their digitization efforts especially the financial services industry. The drive is visible in the government offices as well. IRCTC for instance, is encouraging customers to use mobile for ticket verification and hence avoid paper based tickets.

The printing need will even dwindle further with digitization picking up in metro cities and rising adoption of mobile devices. However, in the tier-2 and tier-3 cities, which are still under developed, demand for printing is expected to continue as the adoption of mobile platform is still evolving, says Mohammed Riyaz Ahmed, Market Analyst, Imaging, Printing and Document Solutions Group, IDC.

In an interaction with IT Next, Parikshet Singh Tomar, Country Category Leader, Printing Systems, PPS, Hewlett-Packard India, cited trends that define the printing needs of government offices.

Digitization: The government bodies and departments are looking to transitioning to more agile and efficient office environments. The government departments have been largely relying on the paper based processes and are now looking at adopting digitization practices for easy sharing, storage and access of information. The shift has been largely accelerated with the government’s ambitious Digital India drive.

The innovations in terms of rich portfolios of document management and digitization solutions available today is facilitating various government departments adopt this initiative.  Not to mention the efficiency of core business processes which digitization and data capturing help improve.

Security: The government environments are becoming more data heavy and complex and there is a growing financial impact of a data breach which has resulted in a fundamental need for comprehensive and effective options which can securely simplify the printing and workflow environment.

Mobility and document workflow management: The increasing adoption of mobile devices has created a need for simple, intuitive and seamless solutions to print from mobile devices. Also with cloud-led processes, document management is taking center stage and there is also a growing need for innovative technology tailored to the workflow requirement that is simple, effective and optimizes printing.

Shift towards compact devices: Like business customers, government departments are also looking for smart, affordable solutions that seamlessly integrate into today’s smaller, more communal set ups. Hence there is a clear shift towards compact devices that help save space. HP’s new LaserJets built with JetIntelligence – not just take up to 40 percent less space, but also use up to 53 percent less energy, and wake up, print and duplex in a fraction of the time.

While managed print services is yet to pick up with the government departments there is an increasing traction towards managed supplies and services by various government bodies and departments.
